Get to know scents a little better so you can choose the right one to melt women’s heart

There are mainly two types of colognes for men — designer colognes and niche colognes.

DESIGNER COLOGNE

This type of cologne is created under fashion brands and designers such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Tom Ford. The brands aren’t solely perfume brands, and offer other products such as clothes, bags, shoes, sunglasses, makeup, and skincare.

This type of cologne is internationally known thanks to the immense advertising campaigns and famous presenters. They are moderately priced and accessible for most. Designer colognes are popular because they are quite straightforward and familiar. The ingredients are usually popular ones in the perfume industry. The intensity might be on the low side, so the scent isn’t as long-lasting as niche cologne’s. These brands usually don’t have their own in-house perfumists.

NICHE COLOGNE

There are two types of niche colognes. The first is classic niche colognes created by perfumists. Founders of these brands are usually perfumists and the brands have been passed on from generation to generation, such as Creed, 4711, Penhaligon and Acqua di Parma. The scents are classic and luxurious, not trendy or seasonal. Another type is modern niche colognes, which also smell classic and luxurious, but more contemporary and accessible. Modern niche cologne brands include Jo Malone, Diptyque, Bond No.9, Atelier Cologne and Le Labo. Niche colognes, whether classic or modern, use rare and expensive ingredients, and the perfume is stronger than designer colognes’. The cost of production is higher, and the brands don’t focus on advertising or presenters. More investment is made in sourcing ingredients and production, resulting in premium scents worth the price tag.
