WHAT MEN WANT

Tips on how to stay youthful

Have you ever wondered why some people look so young it’s impossible to guess their real age, while some have advanced beyond their actual age? The answer is the skin. Some have smooth, youthful skin while some have tired and saggy skin. No one wants to look old and wrinkly, and that’s why it’s important to take care of your skin properly to keep it youthful.

CLEAN

Rubbing the skin harshly doesn’t mean you’re cleaning the skin deeply — you’re just adding wrinkles to your face. Touch your facial skin gently when you wash or wipe your face. The best way to clean your facial skin is to do it when you’re taking a shower. Put facial foam or gel on your hand and foam it up before massaging it on the skin, using the fingertips to rub the skin in circular motions. Focus on the T-zone. Let the water clean out the soap until it’s clean. Use a soft towel to dab the skin lightly. Don’t be surprised if the skin feels a bit slippery — facial foam or gel today is invented to leave a thin coat of film on the skin to seal in moisture and balance the skin.

It is very important to apply sunscreen every day, no matter what age or sex you are,
whether you’re staying home or going out. Sunlight is the biggest factor of premature ageing.

MOISTURISER

After cleansing your skin, within three minutes, apply moisturiser while the skin is still damp. Damp skin absorbs moisturiser better than dry skin.

You can start using moisturiser at as young as 18 to protect your skin from future ageing signs. Use products with vitamin C, tea tree oil, and BHA which helps slow down bacterial growth, remove dead skin cells and unclog pores.

In your 30s, you will start to notice fine lines around the eyes and laugh lines. The skin becomes drier and pores are enlarged. This is because your skin cannot produce as much collagen and elastin as it did when you’re younger. Therefore, you need extra care. Use eye cream and night cream with retinol to boost collagen production and stimulate new cell production at night.

In your 40s, lines appear deeper and your cheeks begin to sag. Your skin needs products which add moisture and elasticity. Look for products which contain soy peptide. You can also consult a dermatologist to find the best way to address your concerns.

SUNSCREEN

It is very important to apply sunscreen every day, no matter what age or sex you are, whether you’re staying home or going out. Sunlight is the biggest factor of premature ageing. It makes the skin dry and dull. Keep in mind that you need sunscreen 365 days a year. Sunscreen is not just for outdoor activities — using sunscreen can protect the skin. Look for PA and SPF to ensure that the sunscreen can protect the skin from both UVA and UVB. The minimum is PA+++ and SPF25.
