Daniel Lee was appointed Bottega Veneta’s Creative Director in 2018, and since then, it’s been his mission to define the brand’s creative direction and elevate the details of the brand’s pieces through new structures of both apparel and leather goods. The 32-year-old British designer has worked at Celine before moving to Bottega Veneta, starting with his inaugural Pre-Fall 2019 collection. This collection lays the foundation through classic silhouettes and shapes interwoven with personality, making it an instant hit.

Even with a new creative direction, Bottega Veneta’s classic signature still remains. In the Fall 2019 collection, he brings a sharp injection of modernity to traditional technique, turning up the volume, fusing the brand’s artisanal leather craftsmanship with modern technology to create classic and contemporary pieces, exactly what the designer has intended. The attitude of the long-standing Italian brand looks at the world through a contemporary lens, plays with sharp contrast — between bold and delicate, luxurious and ordinary, indulgent and serious.
For the colour palette of this collection, the designer plays with chemical hues — light blue, metallic purple, tangerine — and natural colours like beige, white, grey, black and various shades of brown. A plain black leather shirt is paired with a puffy blue skirt to depict simple contrast. The styling is also all about unlikely contrast — asymmetric knitwear, wearing feminine leather coat with military boots, with simple hair and make-up. These looks are a perfect example of the brand’s new direction.
