Beauty mistakes that many women make
and lesser known beauty tips

1. TAKE YOUR TIME

The most common mistake that women make is putting on powder or foundation in a hurry when the moisturiser hasn’t been completely absorbed yet. This will only smudge your makeup. The trick is to put on your moisturiser and take a break — maybe have a cup of coffee first — before beginning the next step. If you don’t have a lot of time in the morning, after putting on your moisturiser, sit in front of a fan to speed things up.

2. ALWAYS APPLY PRIMER

Think of primer as your skin’s underwear, and foundation as a satin dress. Always wear primer or makeup base to plump up and smoothen  the skin. If your skin is already healthy, you can use only primer or makeup base and skip foundation and powder. This gives you a dewy and healthy look. Primer comes in many forms these days. Silicone primer helps fill lines and pores, but isn’t suitable for oily skin. Beige primer gives your skin a healthy look and is good for pale skin with dark spots. White primer with shimmer adds a healthy glow to your skin and is good for dry and dull skin.

3. DON’T USE TOO MUCH FOUNDATION

Many women put on too much foundation. When using a pump, sometimes too much foundation comes out, and many would just use all of it. This means too much foundation ends up on your skin and becomes hard to blend. Let’s break this habit and only pump lightly — maybe go just half way. This will help you get just the right amount of foundation for your skin.

4. DON’T FORGET TO WARM FOUNDATION

Most people don’t know that foundation should be warmed on the hand before applying. Your body’s warmth will help the foundation become more blendable.

5. FINGER IS YOUR BEST FRIEND

Your finger is the best tool for blending foundation. Use the tips of your middle fingers and massage gently in circular motions. Do not rub the foundation on your skin. If you feel it’s uneven, use a brush to blend the rest of the foundation. This will give you flawless results and save a lot of time.

6. USE ONLY WHEN NECESSARY

Piling on foundation isn’t going to give you beautiful skin. On the contrary, it enhances your flaws. Only use foundation when necessary. If your skin is fine, you don’t even need it. First, understand that the purpose of wearing concealer and foundation is to cover up flaws. The idea is to only cover those flaws, not the rest of your skin. Therefore, only put it on where necessary. Don’t overdo it or you’ll only make the flaws more noticeable.

7. BE HONEST TO YOUR SKIN TONE

Always be true to your skin tone and do not try to cheat by buying foundation in a shade lighter. Instead of brightening your skin, it will only look greyish. And stop buying pink-tinted foundation hoping that it will give your skin a rosy glow. Thai people’s skin has yellow undertone, so if you use pink-tinted foundation, it will turn green. Choose foundation with yellow undertone because it matches virtually any skin colour, especially Asian skin. When buying powder and foundation, choose three colours that most suit your skin, and apply them on the cheeks. The colour that becomes invisible is the perfect one for you.

8. CHOOSE THE RIGHT CONCEALER

Remember that concealer for undereye circles and concealer for dark spots and scars are not the same. To hide undereye circles, use brightening concealer to make the eyes appear fresh. To choose concealer for undereye circles, go a shade lighter than your foundation and in a lighter texture. For dark spots, pick the same colour as your foundation for natural coverage. Concealer for your eyes should be smooth and silky. In other words, it should offer a dewy look, because matte and dry texture will amplify lines around the eyes.
