Once again King Power Group has become a source of national pride when King Power Thai Power – the Group’s CSR initiative – scooped Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2020 (AREA 2020) in the category of Social Empowerment for two consecutive years. The group came out on top with over 200 nominated projects from 19 countries in Asia. The awards ceremony was hosted by Enterprise Asia – an independent organisation who supports sustainable development of economy and social in Asia region. This year the ceremony went online as a virtual event corresponding with the new normal with over 600 viewers.

Then came a day that we saw them sprout and young shoots and blossom beautifully. This award echoes the group’s commitment, determination and good will. We’d like to see the betterment of Thai youth, communities and society and we also want to see them get their chance to advance their potential in order to drive sustainable growth of the Thai communities and society in all dimensions”.
Since 2017, King Power Thai Power has been creating opportunities, spreading the smiles and exerting strength for youth in over 4,000 schools and 400 communities across the country, spanning three core pillars; sports, music and creative community. Initiatives billed under King Power Thai Power include Million Kids, Million Power project which inspire Thai youth to dream and dare to go it by aiming to deliver 1 million world-standard footballs to youth in remote areas throughout Thailand and 100 Faux-Grass Football Pitches with international-standard size for schools or communities in need, an international wind instrument symphony competition project where musicians from around the world to showcase their talents as well as Support Folk Wisdom Community Products which shines a spotlight on Thai folk wisdom and creates a distribution platform on a global scale.

For this year’s AREA Awards, 81 out of over 200 projects from 19 countries including Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Philippines, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Taiwan, Myanmar, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Macau, Japan, China and Thailand, made cut in the first round. The panel which comprised experienced and knowledgeable names from varied industries and countries took over 3 months in deciding who the winners are. The judging criteria ranges from presentation, qualitative measurement, creative efficiency, commitment, community relations, relevancy, target group penetration, degree of involvement and consistency. Other winners includes Taiwan Life Insurance from Taiwan, Accenture Inc. from Philippines, Taylor’s Education Group from Malaysia, Novaland Group of Vietnam, Sinopharm Group of The People’s Republic of China, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and Noritake Lanka Porcelain from Sri Lanka.

AREA Awards ceremony is hosted annually by Enterprise Asia to honour agencies or organisations which engages in outstanding CSR responsibility activities, recognises the value of fostering a culture of caring and non-polarised society and instills a sense of social responsibility within their organization. Their performances must yield tangible results which can be systematically assessed. AREA Awards are presented in six categories; environment’s Green Leadership Award, Human Resources’ Investment in People, Health’s Health Promotion Award, good governance’s Corporate Governance Award, leadership’s Responsible Business Leadership Award and social strengthening’s Social Empowerment Award.
