Earlier in May this year, Prada staged its Resort 2019 show in the company’s headquarters on West 52nd Street in New York, which is a former piano factory. The transformation of the former piano factory was the first project entrusted to Herzog & de Meuron by Prada in 2000. Most fashion brands change their show venues to different cities around the world, but the way Miuccia Prada thinks is not as simple as that. Time was a subtext of her excellent collection, and she brought back the most iconic motifs of her career defining 90’s shows while also presenting the worlds of imagination and reality. Where else in the world do dreams, opportunities and realities are intertwined like in the Big Apple?
In addition to clothes, the Resort 2019 collection also features
the Prada Sidonie handbags, IT bag of the season

This collection looks back to the 90’s with a contemporary and sporty vibe. Actually, the 90’s was the beginning of the brand, and plentiful archival prints are brought back. Millennials might not be familiar with them, but they too can have fun with hip-slung miniskirts, long and narrow dresses, tank tops layered over mock necks and long, straight skirts. Just in time for festivity and celebrations, colour blocking of shades of brown, red, yellow, cornflower blue and green also featured. Jacquards and sequinned chiffon add a touch of glamour. While the 90’s and 2019 are two different times, Prada beautifully bridges the two eras through luxurious and sporty designs.
Another fun element which has been extremely well-received is different versions of the Prada logo reinterpreted by OMA characterising the garments. This season presents the special PRADA NY 019 seen on tops, skirts and hems.
In addition to clothes, the Resort 2019 collection also features the Prada Sidonie handbags, IT bag of the season. Classic yet practical and durable, as a Made in Italy bag should be, the bag is an iconic piece that will stay in style. The Prada Sidonie evokes elements of the archetypal bags presented in Spring/Summer 2000: a curvaceous, ergonomic shape, a modern classic rediscovered. To represent minimalism from the 1990’s, the shoes in this season are seemingly classic yet boast elaborate details, fusing past with present, for the future. Cable-knit shoes are snug and comfortable, decorated with beautiful graphics.
Before the season comes, for this time of year, check out Pradamalia, Prada’s new family of mysterious creatures released just in time for Christmas. The seven new creatures — Disco, Socks, Fiddle, Otto, Toto, Scuba, and Spot — each exhibits supernatural powers and a few glaring quirks. Individual Pradamalia can be found at Prada stores and prada.com in the forms of keychain tricks, earring sets, and necklace charms, in a range of sizes and materials. These items are available just in time for the holiday season, perfectly marrying the playful and serious tones of its Christmas and Resort 2019 collections.
