Q: If I use concentrated serum, do I still need a moisturiser?

A: Even if your serum is concentrated, the watery texture means you still need something heavier like a moisturising lotion, emulsion or cream to seal the serum’s active ingredients and your skin’s natural moisture. Even though you use concentrated serum, you still have to add moisture to the skin with something a little heavy, because if you don’t, it’s like letting water flow in and out without keeping it.

Q: Why are there so many steps in skincare ritual? Can’t we just put everything into one bottle to save time?

A: We can’t just put everything into one bottle because of the ingredients. If you put the best ingredients for every skin concern, you might have to add over a hundred ingredients into one bottle, and everything will be so diluted that the ingredients won’t be able to do their job properly. 

Q: If I have oily skin, do I still need a moisturiser?

A: Even if your skin is oily, you still need a moisturiser to hydrate the skin, because oil and moisture are not the same thing. Skin sebum keeps the skin elastic, while moisture is all about the healthy glow. Notice how your skin looks parched when you don’t get enough sleep or party too much. Thirsty skin needs to produce more oil to coat the skin so that it doesn’t lose too much moisture, and therefore it becomes oily. So, if you do not moisturise the skin, it becomes oilier. Using a moisturiser regularly helps balance the skin’s moisture. If your skin is very oily and you’re worried about the skin feeling sticky, choose an oil-free moisturiser.

Q: If I have a small budget and want to invest in a few skincare items, what should I buy?   

A: If your budget is limited but you want to take care of your skin, invest in a good serum. Most skin innovations and groundbreaking technologies happen in a serum. Also invest in a good sunscreen to protect the skin. For moisturiser and cleansing gel, just choose an affordable drugstore brand that is effective and gentle on the skin.
