Four easy steps to make your skin perfect every day

1. Clean:

Cleaning your skin is very important. Each day, your skin is exposed to dust, bacteria and pollution, so it’s important to wash your face twice a day — in the morning and before you go to bed. Washing your face too much irritates and dries out the skin. If your skin feels oily during the day, use tissue paper or blotting sheets to dab it — do not rub your skin. When washing your face, use room temperature water, not too hot or too cold. After that, use a soft towel to press the skin gently. Do not rub the skin as it can cause premature wrinkles. If you have dry skin, wash your face with only water in the morning to avoid overdrying your skin. Choosing the right facial wash is also important. Soap bar is good for removing excess oil but it can dry out your skin. Never use body soap on your face. If you have dry skin, pick something with no foam. The skin might feel a bit slippery, not squeaky, but it’s actually clean.

2. Protect:

UV rays are your skin’s worst enemy. Protect your skin with sunscreen to prevent premature wrinkles and dark spots. Use sunscreen every day, not just when you’re going to be out in the sun or going to the beach. Even when it’s raining, you still need sunscreen. Pick something with SPF 30 or higher and PA+++ or higher. If you’re going to be in the sun, put on sunscreen 20 minutes before. The right amount of sunscreen is the size of a 10-Baht coin. If you’re by the beach, swimming or sweating, reapply your sunscreen every two hours and choose water resistant sunscreen.

3. Moisturise:

Even if you have oily skin, you still need to moisturise it. Moisture keeps your skin looking youthful and smooth, and even oily skin can be dehydrated — oil and moisture are two different things. Skin oil is about elasticity, while skin moisture is about the water content in your skin. If you have oily skin, choose oil-free moisturiser with a water base, not oil base, to prevent stickiness. You can notice the product’s name, as it usually says Aqua, Water or Hydra. If you have combination or dry skin, look for something with silicone ingredients like Cyclomethicone or Dimethicone. If you have very dry skin, use moisturising oil that won’t clog your pores, and look for Omega-3 or Grapeseed Oil.

4. Nourish:

In addition to hydrating your skin, you should also nourish the skin to treat your skin concerns. If you are worried about excess oil and acne, choose a product with Niacinamide, Salicylic Acid, Witch Hazel or Tea Tree Oil which can help reduce inflammation and stimulate exfoliation. If you’re concerned about wrinkles, pick something with peptides like Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 or Retinol which help with collagen production. If you have dark spots, pick brightening products which can help slow down pigmentation with ingredients like Arbutin, Vitamin B3, Kojic Acid or Licorice.
