Tips on keeping your hair in tip top shape and choosing the right products for handsome hair all day long

SHAMPOO

Choose the right shampoo type for your hair and wash your hair 4-5 times a week. Use room temperature or warm water, not hot water. Unless you use hair styling product, it is not recommended to wash your hair daily because it will dry out your hair and scalp. If you use hair styling products regularly, use clarifying shampoo once a week to get rid of chemicals and impurities, which can weigh down and dull your hair.

HAIR CONDITIONER

Many men underestimate the importance of hair conditioner. Every time you wash your hair, always seal it with conditioner. Apply conditioner from the tips up to the middle, and leave the scalp because it can make the hair flat and the scalp oily. Leave the hair conditioner on for at least three minutes to let it absorb, then rinse  it out. If you use conditioner regularly, you will notice that your hair is easier to style.

HAIR MASK

Men should also use hair mask, especially if your hair styling routine involves heat. Get a hair treatment once a week, or if you don’t have time, use hair mask at home and you will see how it does wonders to your hair and your total look.

HAIR SERUM

Use oil serum because it’s lighter and doesn’t make the scalp and hair oily. Use a small amount and rub it gently on your hair. If you use too much, the hair will look weighed down and flat. You can mix some oil serum with wax in your hands first — this helps style your hair and add shine at the same time.

HOW TO CHOOSE

HAIR STYLING PRODUCTS

Simple tips on how to choose hair styling products like a pro

HAIR GEL: Designed for taming spiky hair, the down side of hair gel is that it doesn’t look natural, and once set, you can’t move it. These days, there’s gel wax, which is a mixture of gel and wax, to give a more natural finish and flexibility in styling.

HAIR MOUSSE: There are many types of hair mousse which helps hold the hair and adds both volume and bounciness to the hair. The good thing is mousse takes a while to set, so you have time to style your hair. Hair stylists recommend using mousse with blow-drying your hair straight to add volume. Use mousse when the hair is still damp.

HAIR WAX: Great for short or wavy hair, it adds texture to your hair while offering flexibility in styling. It looks more natural than gel, but the down side is that it is oily and hard to wash out. Hair stylists recommend applying hair conditioner and powder on the hair to absorb the grease from wax before washing your hair with shampoo.
